Model of proposed 15' Stainless Steel Ela Peace Pole

Ela Peace Project

We are celebrating you, our families, our community and peace by installing a peace pole in Ela Park on Main Street in Lake Zurich.

Peace poles can be found around the world: on mountain tops, at the Pentagon, the Vatican, the United Nations and in hometowns across America, gracing schools, universities, temples, churches, corporations, arboretums  and parks.

The first peace pole was created in Japan in 1955 in response to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.   Since then, peace poles have been installed as a counter to inhumanity and a symbol of the goodness in all of us.

The Ela Peace Pole will have the distinction of being Lake County’s first peace pole and will join the over 200,000 peace poles around the world.

Our peace pole, a 15' tall stainless steel sculpture, will be a beacon of peace, proclaiming the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” The unique design will include the word “peace” in sign language, braille and the over 60 languages spoken in our community.

This is truly a non-partisan,  grassroots project, funded, solely, by our generous community of peace builders.
